Ethan Edwards is an ex-confederate soldier who returns home from war to find that his family has been massacred and his niece captured by the Comanche Indians. Edwards vows to bring her back and kill the Indians who did this to him and his family. He travels for many years in order to find her and when he does he is horrified to discover she has been assimilated into the tribe.
