Selma is the story of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic struggle to secure voting rights for all people – a dangerous and terrifying campaign that culminated with the epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, and led to President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

This resource is designed for students of History, Citizenship, Religious Studies and English ages 13 – 18 but may also be used in PSHEE. Offering a range of interactivity based on the film and from archive sources, these materials give learners an exciting opportunity to develop skills of close reading and analysis. Activities also build students’ awareness of the contemporary significance of the US civil rights movement and help to develop knowledge and understanding of how primary sources can inform contemporary filmmaking.
